Brow Lift | Berks County | Schuylkill County

A forehead lift or "browlift" is used to correct a drooping browline (eyebrow area) reducing the horizontal lines and furrows (worry lines) that often make a person appear angry, sad or tired.  The procedure creates a refreshed, youthful appearance to the forehead area above the eyes.

When performing a forehead lift procedure, muscles and tissue areas that droop or cause creases are removed or corrected to smooth the skin on the forehead to reduce frown lines and raise the eyebrows.  There are two surgical methods, and during your initial consultation the procedure that works best for you will be recommended.  The first is the most conventional method where a surgical incision is hidden just above the hairline.  Browlifts are also performed using an endoscope which enables the procedure to be performed with a minimal number of incisions.  While the traditional method can sometimes attain more lift, both methods create smoother, flatter skin on the forehead.

Endoscopic Forehead Lift

Using special instrumentation, surgeons are able to perform procedures inside the body cavities without making large incisions.  It has become one of the fastest developing techniques in facial plastic surgery, especially in corrections of the forehead. While many surgeons use this method, it has certain limitations and is not applicable to every patient. The choice of this technique will depend on the age of the patient, and hairline and eyebrow configuration.

Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid Surgery | Berks County | Schuylkill CountyBlepharoplasty, or eyelid tucks, are very common in patients over 40. This is a procedure to remove fat, along with excess skin, from the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can correct drooping upper lids and the puffy bags under the eyes - features that make you look older and more tired than you feel. The effect is to give the eyes a more rested, youthful look with a brighter appearance.

Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper lids, lower lids or both and can also be performed in conjunction with other facial procedures.

As people grow older, the skin of the face begins to wrinkle and sag, with the help of gravity and time. Exposure to the sun, genetic influences and other factors can contribute to the effects of aging. A facelift can correct these conditions and give people a more youthful appearance. This procedure involves the tightening of facial and neck skin and muscles, as well as the removal of excess skin.  Facelift incisions are placed in areas where they are minimally visible. The objective is to elevate the underlying structures and redrape the skin on the face in order to give a more youthful, healthy and rested appearance.

The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, although some of our patients prefer to take advantage of the extended stay unit. The discomfort associated with a facelift is usually minimal to moderate. Bruising and swelling are expected, but this will resolve in ten days to two weeks following the surgery. As with any plastic surgery procedure, the healing process with a facelift is gradual and final results may not be apparent for several weeks, but the benefits from the surgery will last for years.

Lip Enhancement

Lip Enhancement | Berks County | Schuylkill County

A variety of techniques are now available for lip enhancement. The purpose of lip enhancement is to give the lips a fuller  and therefore more youthful appearance.

Collagen replacement therapy can offer excellent immediate results. However, like your own collagen, your body will eventually absorb this and ongoing treatment is necessary to maintain results. Treatments generally last 3-6 months, but each individual re-absorbs the collagen at varying rates, so results can be different. Injections are performed in the office and can be done on your lunch hour.

More permanent methods are available through fat grafting and "alloderm" grafting. These techniques are permanent, although touch-ups may be required from time to time to maintain desired fullness. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia in our office surgical suite. You are able to go home following the procedure, but you will need someone to drive you home. Swelling and some bruising will be present immediately following the procedure and can take up to two weeks to completely disappear.

Nose Surgery

Rhinoplasty is performed to correct a deformity after trauma or to change the appearance of the nose to be more aesthetic and pleasing. Sometimes the hump is removed, usually the nose is thinned out at the tip and slightly elevated. It is usually necessary to narrow the nose at the time of surgery. A splint and packing are removed by the 5th day and most people are presentable in approximately a week to 10 days. If you have difficulty breathing, your insurance may pay for a portion of the procedure.

Surgery of the Chin

Facial implants help change the basic structure of the face to give a fuller look.  Facial surgery is most often done with better definition of the the chin, cheeks, or jaw.  Implants can vary in size and shape.
